Tangled (Review)

You may find it funny to hear that I'm still hook up with bedtime stories. Funny as it may seem, yes I am! There is still this part of me that still want to hold the fairy tale book and read once more its pages.

Probably because when I was still a kid, I used to browse the pages of the book. At the back of my mind the characters have a life of their own. They are walking, talking, laughing, eating and doing all the stuffs that humans do.

I have watched Tangled for about 6 or 8 times since last year. I am enamored at how the story is made. Though there are some versions of this film and this is the 2nd 3D or computer animation that I have watched after the Barbie version. But for me, the Disney version is the best.

The story begins when Mother Gothel finds the miracle flower that whenever you sing a song it can heal your illnesses or even regain your youth.

As time pass by, the Queen gets sick and they need to find that one thing that can cure her majesty's sickness. When the night comes, a soldier sees the golden flower because Mother Gothel forgets to cover it with a basket.

Then they dig the flower (including the roots) and hand it over to the Queen as a form of medicine. Princess Rapunzel is born with a golden hair. Mother Gothel enters the nursery room to take a glimpse of her flower then she cuts the hair of the Princess. Upon cutting the hair, she notices that it will turn into brown once you cut it.

Mother Gothel then decides to take away the Princess in order for her to maintain her beauty. The King and Queen light up the lanterns during the Princess's birthday. Mother Gothel tends to the Princess as her own child in the tower deep down at the woods.

On her 18th birthday, Rapunzel tries to persuade Mother Gothel to see the floating lanterns but Mother Gothel refuses and tell her stories about how the "outside world" are cruel and selfish.

Once Mother Gothel is not around to run some errand in the town; Flynn Rider climbs the tower in desparation to save his own life. He and the kingdom are not in good terms, since he and his fellow bandits steals the Princess's crown.

Rapunzel offers a deal that if Flynn takes her to the lanterns for her 18th birthday, she promises to return the crown (not knowing that the crown is hers).

At first, Rapunzel is unsure whether or not she will embark on a journey that would change her life forever. Flynn convinces Rapunzel that she needs to make up her mind. Its now or never to live her own life.

Thus their remarkable yet thrilling adventure begins. They encounter the not so ruthless Gauls at the small inn. and allow them to escape. At the secret passage, the royal guards, the Stabbington brothers and Maximus the great have a breath taking marathon that would challenge their bravery

They are trap inside the tunnel and both of them are terrified that it may be their last as the water rises above the ceiling. Rapunzel remembers that her hair glows when she sing. While singing, her magical hair lead them to end of the tunnel. Upon reaching the end of the tunnel, they finally breath air and they are finally safe and sound. Flynn and Maximus have a short argument. But Rapunzel intervenes and convinces Maximus that Flynn is such a great guy. Flynn is still bound to his promise that he will have to take Rapunzel to the floating lanterns for her 18th birthday.

They dance and sing once they reach the kingdom. At night, she and Flynn lit their lantern at the center of the river while singing "I see the light." She never been this happy in her whole life.

Once they reach the port, Flynn decides that he will finally surrender the crown to his fellow bandits, Stabbington Brothers. But everything is just a set - up. As you can see, Mother Gothel and the brothers have an agreement. That if they help her capture Flynn they will have greater price than the crown because they could have the long lost Princess.

It is all a drama scene and Flynn sad to say fall onto their trap. Mother Gothel approaches Rapunzel and tell her that Flynn just trick her. All he wants is the crown and not Rapunzel.

Flynn is taken to prison. Maximus together with the Gauls rescue Flynn. He heads toward the forest to rescue Rapunzel from the wicked Gothel.

Meanwhile, Rapunzel remembers her true identity and confronts Gothel but Gothel wins over Rapunzel. Gothel attacks Flynn living him fighting for his life. Rapunzel begs Gothel to spare Flynn, promising that she will stay with Gothel forever provided she will save Flynn.

Before breathing his final breath, Flynn cuts the hair of Rapunzel turning it into brown. Gothel screams in her shock. As she run towards the two, she accidentally flip off and fell from the tower. Rapunzel sing the magical song, hoping Flynn would be alive. By the time her tears touch Flynn's face, as sort of magic fill the room. Flynn comes to life once more.

In the end, Rapunzel reunites with her parents. Maximus, the horse, is given an honor's salute.

These men fulfill their dreams too.

Going out and searching for an adventure is a timeless collection of your youth. So when your skin have a wrinkles, your hair is already gray and you have grandchildren that will ask you about your younger years. Well at least you have a nice story to narrate. Eventually your story could inspire them to take  their own voyage and discover the undiscovered shores.
