Author's Two Faces

Last Saturday, I finally watched Saving Mr. Banks. I thought Mr. Disney was the one referred as Mr. Banks. It turns out it was a character from Mary Poppins.  As the movie proceeds, PL Travers proved that she was indeed a stubborn person. Her personality seemed to be a control freak, pessimistic and unappreciative.

If I were in her shoes, I will be grateful that my books are chosen by the producers to bring to life.
There maybe times writers and producers will have a conflict in some degrees. Resolving different interests should be in a good manner.

Tom Hanks played Walt Disney

The movie does not only concentrated how the Mary Poppins came to the big screen. The story contained flashback memories on how P.L. Travers created her masterpiece. Her book series were all about her childhood. Mr. Banks was the representation of her alcoholic-unsuccessful bank manager father whom she adored. Colin Farrell played the role of Mr. Banks.

There was a scene where  PL Travers fled to England due to the animated penguins. She left in the middle of their pre-production. Walt Disney followed her  in London. During their conversation, Mr. Disney made it clear (according to the movie version) the author misjudged him. He wanted to  create Mary Poppins because of a father's promise to his daughters for 20 years.

Walter Disney also noted that "We create our personas." He  was right. After all we project  what we want others to see. Writers developed the characters out of their personal lives and from the individuals they encounter everyday. Some writers constructed the concept of their craft based on the socio-political idealism and its impact in the society.

Each of us have our issues. One lesson which I learned from this movie was forgiveness. Mr. Disney reminded PL. Travers that she made Mr. Banks because it symbolized her father. In one way or another, she should learn to forgive the faults of her drunken Dad. Walt Disney shared his childhood experiences and how he created the Disney company. He owe his success to his father, though he and his brother underwent a hard life by means of selling newspapers in the street. He may not enjoyed his younger years but it paved way on achieving his dreams. That goal served as a basis for the fairy tale - blissful animation of Disney productions.

Emma Thompson played the part of PL Travers

I totally agree with Walt Disney. We make our fantasy. We may live in difficult, hard or comforted life. As a human being, we are responsible for the joys we have. Life is too short to make it dull. Either forgive and forget or forgive but never to forget, it is your choice. We live in a world where the society dictates how should we live it. We create our persona -- two faces to meet those demands. Be who you are for the best. Give damn to those ridicule you.
