Report Reflections: Essentialism

Essentialism

After weeks of agonizing what should I write finally I am now able to reflect about Essentialism. As a student (during my younger years) our teachers were the ones doing all the talking and we were advised to sit and listen as they lead us to the dynamic world of learning.

That form of teaching was called traditional learning since it was teacher centered.

Nowadays, since most schools are now following UBD, it is a design for the students to learn on their own. The teacher should be facilitating the lessons and allow the pupils to uncover and manipulate objects.

Even though it is the modern set up of learning implemented by CHED, I disagree with this idea. I think following this design is case to case basis and the school management/ teacher should assess if it is applicable with the students.

In my own point of view, learning is fun if both the teacher and student are working together.

Usually, I introduce the topic then the students will explore the activities they will perform and at the end of the activity we “close” the lesson as a form of sharing (question and answer portion).  On this manner, I could get their insight if they get the whole point of the topic.
