Brave (Movie Review)
Brave
This is the second time that I watch this film.
It recounts the story of Princess Merida how she defies her mother's wish to marry a noble Prince.
What amazes me the most is the portrayal of how strong a woman can be. In a family mothers are regard as the "light of the family". Each of our mothers is unique and the way they tend to our needs are different from the rest.
From my own experience, I have seen so far various kind of mothers. There are some mothers who are very supportive of their kids' hobbies and sometimes with their kids' whimsical thoughts. While some mothers out there are quite traditional, take for example our Mommy. She is the type of person that follow the rules of the olden times- swear!
Just like in the movie Merida wishes that her mother change her mind about her betrothal. But what takes place is far from her request. Her mother does change not her mind about marriage but into a bear.

Now and then our Mommy would call us and tell us "Angela (my sister)! Swipe the floor then go upstairs and hang the clothes blah..blah..Angelica (that's me, since I am the eldest child) go to the market buy this and buy that, move now or else the Sun will greet you. Albert (my brother) open the internet e-mail this to a client, draw this one...then this, etc.."
When we are still young even until now, our mother reminds me that I have to watch my actions and my words since I am the eldest child. I should be a role model to my younger siblings. The pressure is really on me. Just like the story of Merida her mother oftentimes reminding her about the manner that a Princess should possess.
There are times that I also ask myself this big question "Why on Earth this woman is my mother?! Look she's driving me crazy! She wants me to do things that I don't like."
There are instances that she never understands me at all. She keeps on saying she does understands me and know my deepest thoughts but she never do. Furthermore, I sometimes wonder if the saying "Mother knows best" is true. Lets's accept the fact that mothers should give their sons and daughters time of their life.
After all we will not be young for all eternity. We will grow old someday and rear our own family. But I think they are our mothers for a reason we never know. One thing is for sure they carried us inside their womb for 9 months with unconditional love and care that binds us together.
Though we are not perfect sons and daughters to our mothers, let this movie be a lesson that no matter how dreadful we can be, we will always have a loving Mom that loves us dearly. The mother - daughter relationship is something like "mend the pride torn by pride."
