This whole of month of May, I binge watched the full length of 36 episodes of The Prisoner of Beauty at WeTV. Because of this show I quickly decided to purchase the 1 month VIP subscription. Oh my gosh 💘 Liu Yuning was so stunning in this drama 😍the role as Wei Shao really suited him. Song Zuer starred as Qiao Xiao, as the female lead and wife of Wei Shao. She totally nailed her part as the woman behind the success of Wei clan.
Quick backdrop about the duo, Wei and Qiao clans were previously in good terms. However, a conflict took place 14 yrs ago, a civil strife broke out and the Wei clans were almost wiped out. The Qiao clan refused to sent reinforcement due to cowardice.

Few years had passed, the matriarch of the Wei and the patriarch of Qiao in order to end the feud, the elders decided to have an arrange -political marriage. Shao and Xiao neither like each other at first but they need to work it out for the sake of peace and alliance for the two families torn by greed. At first Wei Shao was a fierce some warlord but after marriage he suddenly became a henpecked husband. Gradually, they both lower down their guard and they began to trust each other. Even Wei Shao's mother softened her heart for Qiao Xiao in the latter part of the story. Each time they had a fight, Wei Shao always comforted Xiao and quickly apologizes to her. He maybe cold in the outside but he was soft in the inside. I just hope in real life there would be men like Wei Shao, though not perfect but he tries to be a better husband and provider for Xiao. Maybe I need to pray harder so that God can hear me out 👐 I want to have a husband like him.

Wei Shao had 4 loyal generals : Wei Dou, Wei Xiao, Wei Liang and Wei Qu. Together they were brothers at war and stick together as a family. Whenever the five of them were together expect action -comedy theme. If they made it until the end, no. In the last episode only three of the generals made it namely: Wei Qu, Wei Dou and Wei Xiao.

Somehow if only Wei Qu did not switch mission assignment with Wei Liang, probably he would still be alive. If only Xiao Tao, one of Qiao Xiao maid, demanded that she wanted an orchid as a sign of wedding proposal while they were at Yunzhou for a quick stopover. Wei Liang would still be alive 😢. If given a chance to rewrite the script, I would give them a wedding that they deserve.

Wei Yan, Wei Shao's cousin, who was an avid traveler, loves courtesan women and good at painting. He harbors hatred at first at Qiao Xiao but later fantasized about her through the painting he had made named The Goddess. Shao found out and burnt the painting. Towards the end of the series, Yan went back to his father and gained the posthumous title as general (warlord) of Bianzhou. He aided the Wei state during the siege, in that way he redeemed himself about the wrong doing he had done previously for lusting over his cousin-in-law, Qiao Xiao. What I love about the cousins was that their beloved grandmother taught them the value of family, love, responsibility and forgiveness.
Su E Huang, who at the young age entangled her life to three men. She got married twice and got engaged once, all of these relationship all ended in death. No partner of her had given her any child for her to cling on to the power she hoped for. She may not love the three men but those men loved her, cherished her, spoiled her and they knew about her fake huadian mark and her nose injury (toward the end of the series). They even tried to find a way out for her to live so that she would not suffer but she only cared about was herself.
I know that women during that time had no say in everything but you have the mind to decide for yourself and to discern what is right from wrong. She must know how fortunate she is to have three men that truly love her.
