I Want My Own Holiday Too
Last Monday, I accidentally watched this terrific movie in Star Movies. Just wanting to relax after a tiring day of, MA summer class, impromptu teaching demo and interview, so I wanted something to ease my mind and reflect a thing or two about my future plans.
d by Kate's character and classified the different kind of love each individual may experience. When Kate's character was introduced, I found myself attached to her role. I have this feeling that it could be the effect of being unloved by the opposite sex. Most of the time, I found myself in the position of one-sided love. Like her, how I wish the man which I longed for knows my existence.
She's right when she stated that the most painful love would be having no chance or voice to say how you feel. The only thing which you can do is to watch that person from afar.
Cameron's character was very successful in her career but loved in a wrong reasons by her lover. Jude's role was someone who look for love in just a brief moment and Jack's role was somewhat the same of Kate's character.
As the two women in the movie decided to give their sour love life a break, they exchanged houses via home exchange. In the process, Cameron stayed at Kate's home stead at Surrey, England while Kate stayed at Cameron's Los Angeles Mansion.
It was the first time for both women to travel half of the globe to find their self during the Christmas season.
As Cameron spent the holidays at England, she accidentally bumped into Jude Law's character one fateful night. As they kissed that winter night, they developed this sort of bond which they yet to discover for themselves.
As for Kate and Jack's characters, two "unloved" by their partners met by accident when Jack went to the LA mansion of Cameron just to pick the remaining staffs of Cameron's ex.
Kate befriended the retired male writer and encouraged him to attend the Writer's Guild Award in memory of his achievements. In the process, she discovered herself more and found her worth not just a lover but as a woman as well.
Jack was like the male version of Kate, cheated and was taken for granted by his girlfriend. As the story progresses, he too discovered his worth as a man.
Upon reflection, it may be another typical love story around the corner, but the way I see it is another thing. Not all movies tell us about self-worth, either male or female, every individual must learn to find and value the mere reason for their existence. If you know that you are being used by your partner, learn to say NO. Do not cling on a dead end relationship. Stay longer in that viral union and you will exhaust yourself in the process.
Other than that, The Holiday inspired me to have a more vacation beginning this year 2014. Having a time-out does not mean you just want to relax, but simply means you are enjoying yourself and exploring the world. With the journeys you have on you shoulder can open your eyes to the wonders of the world. From those travels, one will know his or her worth.
