Will You Let Me In or Out?

Last year 2013, it was a Saturday, my younger sister called me and point out the TV screen. As I approached the living room, she was laughing and cannot believe of what she saw. I then asked her why was she laughing and she told me the reason why was she laughing. According to her the show was about cosmetic surgery about women wanting to look beautiful. I felt my eyebrows rise to the highest degree at that time.

I cannot believe at first about the reality show, but when I glanced at our TV, my mouth just opened wide and the word "WOW" just went out of my mouth. Maybe I was a bit stereotype because I firmly believe that Koreans have a natural beauty and less aesthetic likers.
Through the Korean shows which I usually watched every now and then so I have this notion that Koreans have a fantastic flawless skin, proportional face (don't get me wrong for that), angelic face and sometimes I envy them for their looks.

Though I happened to watch I think 3 or 4 episodes of Let Me In, the show I think has something good to offer to the mass media. Unlike the American counterpart of the show, wherein women are mostly the participants of various aesthetic surgeries; from nose lift, Botox, liposuction to breast augmentation which shock and shape Hollywood for over a decade or so. The Korean reality show has different twist. It maybe vanity or narcissism to some, but I think the show has a good intention. Before they permit a candidate to undergo a surgery, the management properly screens which contestant need it the most.

Based on the episodes which we watched, the hosts and doctors of Let Me In strictly screens per candidate and interviewing the family of each contestant. At the end they will only choose one participant to have a surgery. What I admire from the show is that they are not doing this just for aesthetic purposes; they are doing this to help those in need to have a better a life and a chance to change their lives 360 degrees. In medical perspective, those are the people who are born with a defect which their families seemingly ignored to have their daughters check for abnormalities. In that case, surgery is required to correct the abnormalities which they are suffering from birth.  Like in the case of one female, based on her statement, she was born with malocclusion of the jaw plus a funnel chest which makes her breathing more difficult. In each episode, they follow the daily lives of the girls and give an update what are taking place inside the Let Me In household.
At the same time, I admire how the Koreans improved their healthcare system. The sophisticated and modernized facilities aid in the boost of their economy. The Korean healthcare system is one of the most admired in the medical field worldwide.

For the name of beauty or not, it is the individual's intention which matter the most. Beauty may fade but the character remains.
